Access to quality education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking cycles of disadvantage. Yet for many Indigenous youth across Canada, barriers — geographic, financial, and systemic — continue to stand in the way of opportunity. Our Education for Indigenous Youth program exists to help remove those barriers, while respecting and celebrating the cultural identity of the students we support.
Why This Program Matters
Indigenous communities across Canada have long faced inequities in access to educational resources, funding, and support systems. These gaps are not a reflection of ability or ambition — they are the result of historical and structural challenges that require intentional, sustained action to address.
We believe that education should never depend on where a child is born or the community they belong to. By investing in Indigenous youth, we are not only supporting individual students; we are strengthening communities and helping to build a more equitable future for all of Canada.
How the Program Works
Our approach is built on three core pillars, each designed to support students at different stages of their educational journey:
1. Scholarships and financial support. We provide scholarships and resources that help cover tuition, books, technology, and other essentials, easing the financial pressure that too often forces talented students to abandon their studies.
2. Learning resources. From study materials to digital tools, we work to ensure students have what they need to succeed — particularly in remote and underserved areas where access can be limited.
3. Culturally respectful mentorship. We pair students with mentors who honour their heritage and lived experience. Education, in our view, should empower young people without asking them to leave their identity behind.
Honouring Heritage While Building Futures
One of the principles that guides this program is cultural sensitivity. We do not approach education as a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, we work in partnership with Indigenous communities to ensure our support reflects their values, priorities, and traditions.
This means listening to community leaders, involving families in the process, and designing support that strengthens cultural connection rather than diminishing it. When students see their heritage respected within their education, they are more confident, more engaged, and more empowered to succeed on their own terms.
The Progress So Far
Through the generosity of our donors and the collaboration of local partners, this program continues to grow each year. Every scholarship awarded and every resource delivered represents a young person given a stronger foundation for the future — and a community that benefits from their success for years to come.
But there is still much more to do. The need remains greater than the resources currently available, and expanding our reach depends on continued support.
